TEHRAN - In a diplomatic encounter, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi underscored Iran's steadfast dedication to upholding the current borders and geopolitical landscape in the region during discussions with Suren Papikyan, Armenia's Minister of Defense, and his accompanying delegation.

Raisi asserted that the principles guiding regional relations pivot on respecting territorial sovereignty, integrity, and averting external interference in regional affairs.

Iranian chief executive accentuated country's commitment to nurturing peace, stability, and security in the Caucasus region. Reiterating Iran's unwavering stance against alterations to borders or the geopolitical landscape, he emphasized the significance of respecting territorial sovereignty, integrity, and preventing external interference in regional matters.

Expressing optimism, Raisi anticipated that negotiations between the Armenian Defense Minister and his Iranian counterpart, supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran, would substantially contribute to enhancing security in the region. He reiterated Iran's backing for any initiatives aimed at establishing and fortifying peace and stability in the Caucasus.

In delineating the relations between Iran and Armenia, the Iranian president highlighted the effectiveness and importance of cooperation in various fields for developing relations and reinforcing regional security.

Raisi emphasized that regional security necessitates collaboration among countries within the region. He underscored that relying on external entities for security would be counterproductive, emphasizing that security and tranquility could only be guaranteed through the collective efforts of regional countries.

During the meeting, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan expressed appreciation for Iran's commitment to preserving national sovereignty and resolute defense of peace in the region. He declared that establishing peace in the Caucasus, respecting the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all countries, is the top priority on Armenia's agenda.

The defense minister of Armenia arrived in Tehran on Wednesday for meetings with Iranian officials.

Iran has actively cultivated positive relations with both the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia. Emphasizing its readiness to address the disputes and challenges faced by these two nations, Iran has consistently advocated for regional countries to collaboratively resolve issues within the region. Iran has cautioned against allowing the involvement of external countries in the Caucasus under any pretext, as this is deemed unfavorable for the regional countries. The promotion of sustainable peace in the region, as Iran has repeatedly underscored, is achievable only through dialogue and diplomacy.
